Casa Hortensia Cider house is on the third floor of the Asturian Center building in Malasaña, Madrid. It is the kind of place that you cannot find easily if you do not know about it so we got there following the advice of a friend. The main purpose of the dinner was to celebrate my seventh wedding anniversary, a good number I think 🙂 and to try the cider in Madrid.
When we got there both the room of the restaurant and the bar section were empty. Considering how crowded this place can get it looked almost like a private party for two. We ordered the cider and a portion of cabrales cheese with fries to accompany our drink. Since we were already in a restaurant famous for its food we chose fabada asturiana as our second plate.
The fabada and the cabrales cream with fries were beyond tasty although the cider was scrumpy, not a favourite for me, it went well with the cabrales cheese. The food in Madrid is outstanding everywhere you go but I will remember this fabada as a good seventh anniversary present.
