Life, Culture and Travels from the perspective of a Cuban

For a week now I have been drinking Cuban – style coffee from morning to night. Strong, sweet, black and small.

Now that my mom is visiting me the coffee smell wakes me up in the morning and brings me straight home in the afternoon. I can smell the aroma from 10 meters away. Just like in the old days.

In Cuba the most popular coffee maker and probably the only one many Cubans have seen and used is the so called “Italian coffee maker”. I had mine away for over two years since I never prepare this type of coffee only for myself. Coffee is serve in tiny coffee cups (tacitas) and enjoyed any time of the day, not only after meals. Now I am drinking the strongest espresso in a regular size mug and catching up with my mother. I just love it. 🙂

After a year drinking American coffee and specialty coffees a black – ink espresso in the morning seems to be a suicide. It takes about two or three days to start enjoying the old habit, and yes, we all end up drinking it again because it is just too hard to refuse the offer: – Quieres un buchito de cafe? = Do you want a sip of coffee?
