Life, Culture and Travels from the perspective of a Cuban

The visit to San Diego was only 24 hours. We got into the city ten minutes before the sunset and without drooping our packs off at the AirB&B room we went straight Ocean Beach (O.B). We watched an absolutely gorgeous sun setting, the beach was almost empty, perhaps due to the slighty lower temperature but we felt in a sea paradise. 🙂 The view was spectacular and I realized how far south I was, how the sky clouds and the smell of the city and architecture reminded me of a warmer place.

Once the colours of the sky changed to dark we went across the street to Newbreak Cafe and I bought the most amazing Vietnamese coffee I have ever tried. Whoever prepared that coffee wanted to give me the coffee of LOVE lol because I did not want to finish it. Next morning I came back for a second round and the coffee was nice  but not so sweet. It was just a one time thing. I should buy condensed milk and learn how to prepare it myself.

Finally we headed to our home for the night. The owners of the house were friendly and really helpful. We wanted to go for sushi again and they recommended a popular and pretty affordable place called Sushi Deli. They have a few locations in the city and we tried the one on Washington St. We ate and drunk like if we had worked out all day instead of driving so after satisfying our huge appetite we parked the car downtown and strolled the Gaslamp quarter of SD.

The streets were very clean and everything looked so new and well taken care of. The sidewalks were perfect, the buildings were painted, the whole area seemed very tourist oriented and everyone was is in the party mode. People were waiting in line to get into clubs, sitting in patios having dinner, girl were walking around in party dresses. Ferraris and Lamborghinis were passing me by and I could guessed that partying or eating on this side of town was not going to be too cheap.

We took some nice pictures of the city buildings at night, some shots of the street art that you quickly find as soon as you get away from those centric streets where the main party goes on. The city was quiet just a few blocks away from the 4th. We strolled around for about two hours and called it a night early.

Next day we woke up to another gray day. This time we went to Pacific Beach and walked along the boardwalk for a few hours. They have hotels all along the beach. I could see this place in the summer, packed with American tourists looking for warm waters and safe places for kids, people buying San Diego souvenirs and sunscreen, people with money because I cannot see those hotels being sold as All inclusive packages. This is purely assumption. This time I just saw some surfers and young people crowded at bars watching sports and cheering.

We left San Diego at the same time we came in, close to sunset time. It was an agreeable and little stay there. We wished we could have had more time to explore around the beaches and the nightlife. At least now I know I should bring some heels and more friends to party next time. 😉
